Berkhamsted lies in the Valley of the Chiltern Hills and is home to a wide variety of new and old elements.
*DID YOU KNOW* There have been over 50 different versions of the Berkhamsted’s name since the writing of the Domesday Book, such as: "Berkstead", "Berkampsted", "Berkhampstead", "Muche Barkhamstede", "Berkhamsted Magna" and “Great Berkhamsteed”. The present spelling was officially adopted in 1937.
A thriving High Street always has a new, exciting shop or café popping up whenever I visit but some things stay the same. Berkhamsted Castle has stood, unmoving since the times of William the Conqueror and has drawn the attention of tourists for hundreds of years. The Grand Union Canal Runs directly through the heart of Berkhamsted and provides residents with excellent opportunities for a tranquil walk beside the water and the beautiful green areas that surround Berkhamsted.
