On 24th November, Gagan, joined by Nigel Gardner, the parliamentary candidate for Berkhamsted and Harpenden, visited Thames Water's Berkhamsted Sewage Treatment Works (STW) to gain insights into the ongoing upgrades aimed at enhancing sewage management to prevent flooding in the local area.
Accompanied by Richard Aylard, Thames Water's Director of Sustainability, the tour provided a first-hand look at the innovative measures being implemented to ensure that the treated water returning to the waterways meets stringent cleanliness standards. As a key player in the community, Thames Water is committed to safeguarding the environment and ensuring the well-being of residents.
Richard shared with Gagan the dedicated efforts of his team to align with the Government's clean water targets. The upgraded Berkhamsted STW is a testament to Thames Water's commitment to meeting and exceeding these targets, contributing to the overall improvement of environmental standards in the region.
During the visit, Richard also showcased Thames Water's publicly accessible flood alerts website, a valuable resource that provides real-time information on affected areas. This initiative provides residents with up-to-the-minute updates, allowing them to stay informed about potential risks and take necessary precautions.
"This constituency investment by Thames Water is a significant step towards enhancing our local environment standards and overall quality of life," stated Gagan. "The improvements at Berkhamsted Sewage Treatment Works underscore the dedication of Thames Water to proactive sewage management and flood prevention, aligning with the community's needs and expectations."
The collaborative effort between the Government and Thames Water highlights the importance of public-private partnerships in addressing critical infrastructure upgrades for the benefit of the community. The ongoing initiatives at Berkhamsted STW are a reflection of Thames Water's commitment to environmental stewardship and community well-being.
