Numerous constituents and Residents' Groups have been in touch with my office and have highlighted the overflow of sewage into the River Chess. I stand with constituents in wanting to protect out beautiful countryside. On Friday 25th September 2020, Thames Water held a town hall meeting at Sarratt Village Hall at which I was invited to share the stage. Paul from the River Chess Association was also in attendance. There was a lot of concern expressed about the discharges and Thames Water explained the current situation. The meeting was productive and I’ve strongly encouraged Thames Water to invest across the site, including an additional storm well which should avoid the need for the discharges. All of these measures will take time but be rest assured I am aware of the situation and I will maintain the pressure on them.
I have also recently joined the All Party Parliamentary Group for Chalk Streams chaired by my friend Sir Charles Walker. I will continue to monitor and intervene in local environmental matters when appropriate.
