Today in the House of Commons at Prime Minister's Questions Gagan Mohindra MP asked the Prime Minister about the protection of the Greenbelt with reference to the current situation on Green Street in Chorleywood.
Gagan asked " Mr Speaker, I am wholeheartedly in support of this Government’s plans to level up our country and build, build, build. I have recently spoken with numerous constituents regarding their concerns about a potential housing development in Chorleywood. Whilst it is important that we build more affordable homes, this cannot come at the expense of our beautiful countryside . Can the PM tell me how the government will balance the obligations local councils have to build affordable housing whilst prioritising the need to finalise local plans to protect our green belt"
The Prime Minister responded by emphasising the need to Build Back Better but that local authorities should focus on Brown Field sites.
