It was a pleasure to recently visit Chess Valley RFC in Croxley, and have meaningful discussions about the future of grassroots rugby.
One key issue we explored was how rugby isn’t often presented as an option for women and girls in the early stages of sport, making it harder for them to join the game later in life. Clubs like Chess Valley are doing vital work to change this, working with schools to push women to get involved and grow the game at all levels.
Thank you to everyone at Chess Valley RFC for welcoming me. I’m committed to supporting grassroots sports and ensuring rugby and sport is accessible to all who want to take part.
