Gagan Mohindra MP has today (24th January) launched his first ever Short Story Competition for all Key Stage 2 school pupils in South West Hertfordshire.
To celebrate World Book Day, Gagan is asking for young authors across his constituency to email their short stories to him. Gagan will judge the entries before choosing a winner and two runners up.
World Book Day is an annual celebration of books and reading where every child in full-time education in the UK is given a voucher to be spent on books.
The celebration is also commemorating it’s 25th year in 2022.
Commenting, Gagan said:
“I am asking young authors across South West Hertfordshire to send me their short stories. Stories can be anywhere from 1 to 500 words long, so make sure you keep them brief!
“I will be judging these on their originality and creativity. I am very excited to read the young budding author’s stories!
“Education is a priority of mine and I think there is no better way to improve literary skills than by reading and writing. That’s why I am pleased to be hosting this competition.”
To enter the contest, children should ask a parent, guardian or teacher to email their story to Gagan at [email protected] . When doing so, the email should detail the entrant’s full name, age, the name of their school, their year group, full postal address and an email address for their parent/guardian. Stories can be anywhere from 1 to 500 words long and must be emailed to Gagan’s office before 12pm on Thursday 24th February.
Entrants must be primary school age (KS2) and either attend a school in the South West Hertfordshire constituency or live in the constituency.
The winners will be announced by Gagan on World Book Day - Thursday the 3rd March.
