This month the most important thing going upon in the constituency has been our collective response to Coronavirus. Whilst the majority of emails into my office have been from constituents who need support, information or help a small number have been from residents who want to highlight good work in the community. These neighbours, friends, family, colleagues and even strangers have been doing a little bit extra, whether that's picking up and dropping off shopping for those in isolation, delivering meals, staying open longer, raising spirits or generally solving problems.
I am so pleased that the communities in places like Berkhamsted, Sarratt, Tring, Chorleywood and Croxley Green all have banded together to help look after the vulnerable and each other. So last Friday and Saturday I made a special point of visiting just a few of those who have been recommended.
I stopped in to the New Road Surgery to thank the practice manager, doctors and staff and then went down Croxley Green high street to speak to the team at SPAR Croxley and then on to Croxley Hardware. I presented the teams at each with a letter of appreciation on behalf of the community for going those extra things that help local residents in difficult times.
In the afternoon I visited Tring School and spoke with teachers, pupils of key workers and got the chance to thank Miss Corney, one of the teachers who has been making PPE in her spare time, in person. I didn't realise but the reason that volunteers like her have been sending their PPE sets to different organisations in need is because they are organisations that parents of the children in the school work in.
I also met with Chris and Sheena at Tring Church, St Peter and St Paul on Tring High Street to thank them for the volunteer work they do at the Food Bank.
Nothing lifts my mood like seeing this amazing community spirit in action.
