Yesterday, the Government set out a detailed new enhanced approach to dealing with coronavirus, as part of our plans to prepare for all eventualities and keep the British public safe.
From today, every Government department will have a designated Minister who will oversee their department’s role in the cross-government response to the virus.
Today, the Prime Minister will chair a COBRA committee to ensure that cross-governmental cooperation and response is working as effectively as possible to prevent the spread of the virus – and we will hold more frequent COBRA committee meetings if required.
Public safety is the government’s top priority and we will continue to take every step necessary to ensure that our nation remains safe and healthy with the help of our world-leading scientists, medical experts and our fantastic NHS staff. We have also donated £20 million to the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations to produce a vaccine to combat coronavirus.
To keep you and your family as safe as possible, the advice is to wash hands thoroughly for 20 seconds or more; it may sound obvious but it is the official advice from leading health professionals and scientists. A copy of the NHS hand washing poster can be found on the GOV.UKwebsite.
The NHS website has more information about how you can reduce the possible spread of infection. And please visit GOV.UK website (updated daily) for the latest information, including:
